CARMEN PAMPA FUND

Our Mission:

Carmen Pampa Fund generates financial, human and educational resources to support the students of the Unidad Académica Campesina de Carmen Pampa (UAC-CP), a rural unit (unidad) of the Catholic University of Bolivia. The College was founded in 1993 to address the historically impoverished conditions of rural Bolivians through affordable higher education. UAC-CP students know that education is the best asset they can bring back to their communities.

Our Values:

  • We believe that education is the most effective way to address world poverty, to develop local leaders and economies, and to promote the protection and responsible use of natural resources.
  • We believe in respecting, celebrating and revitalizing the cultures of indigenous peoples.
  • We believe that students, families and communities should be involved in our students’ education.
  • We believe that students should use their education to work in and for their communities.
  • We believe in developing skilled and knowledgeable leaders who are passionate about building a bright future for all Bolivians

STAFF

Sue Wheeler, Interim Executive Director

Sue Wheeler, Interim Executive Director / Consultant
Wheeler Consulting Group

In June, 2007, the Carmen Pampa Fund Board hired Sue Wheeler to provide interim executive leadership and help us take advantage of this powerful opportunity to strengthen our organization and build capacity. Sue has more than twenty-five years of management advisory and leadership experience in nonprofit and corporate sectors, and has spent the last five years in organizations that are working to improve lives for the rural poor in developing countries. She is helping us take a fresh look at ourselves and make thoughtful decisions about where we want to go. She is also helping us discern the qualities that our permanent leader should possess. We are very pleased to have Sue with us!

Sue says, “I believe that transitions such as this one can provide opportunities for an organization to grow and thrive - through honest self-examination, strategic thinking and goal setting. I’m enthused about working with Carmen Pampa Fund to make that happen.”

Nadine Leahy

Nadine Leahy’s involvement with the Carmen Pampa Fund extends well beyond her seven years of employment. She vividly recalls the day 13 years ago when one of the founders shared the budding dream of UAC-CP with her. As Database Manager, Nadine manages gift entry, generates donor acknowledgements, prepares reports and maintains the database.

In a 2003 report entitled “Best Practices in Poverty Eradication,” UAC-CP was designated as one of the seven most effective and replicable initiatives worldwide working to eradicate poverty. The report was presented by the NGO Subcommittee for the Eradication of Poverty, a committee promoting the UN Millennium Development Goals and reporting to the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
